One of the saddest films ever? [SPOILERS]

I reckon people find different things sad, because this sets me off about three or four times (mainly towards the end, obviously), while others say it's not sad at all, but will then cry as a football ad.
I think this is one of the truly saddest films ever! Thanks to lots of parts. When Sarah's mother and father say goodbye, and the mother starts to cry. When the little girl says: "I love you mommy". When Jenny's work colleague thinks she's taking her daughter away from her. When Jenny's mother dies, and the sad music, and the orphan line. Ugh, so many. Just a sad film really. Sad, sad, sad. Which is probably how it would be.

CDEGFEDCC. (Shhh!)

Yes agreed 100% with you. Brings tears to my eyes about 15 minutes from the end. Artificial intelligence 2001 is another movie which grips me emotionally also.

reply

I'm with you on that. Just watched it then and I always seem to get choked up and teary with Jenny's story and her demise with her dad. It's so annoying that it's so underrated. I think it's a beautifully made film.

reply

Sad, maybe in specific key moments, which are intended.
Your post sounds almost as if it's the 'sadest of all times' kinda thing. If that's accurate, they're doing wonderful things with anti-depressants these days.

reply

I agree. It's very moving and stunningly beautiful in several moments. That James Horner music. He did it better than anyone!

reply

Yes it was sad, but I never came anywhere close to tears. For a movie about a possible ELE there was very little tension or drama, kind of meh.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.

The parts that are mentioned would probably bring tears to anyone, but it's not sad in the "depressingly sick to my stomach borderline suicidal" pain you get from Atonement and Bridge to Terabithia.

reply

Have not seen those films, and judging from your opinion about them, I probably won't.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

reply

Eh, not really. I get that that's what the film was ultimately going for, but for me it didn't work. So many cliches and so much emotional manipulation; it's rather easy to see through this stuff as an adult.

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.

reply

Sad as in so bad it makes you cry?
