12 in Germany
I was looking through the ratings guide and it says it was rated 12 in Germany. How strict! Who finds it weird that a children's film got a (very) inappropriate rating in Germany.

share1. Please explain what "12" means in Germany. Is that the minimum viewer age (like PG-13) recommended?
2. This is not strictly a "children's film" simply because it's animated. It's at least partly a spoof of "The Great Escape".
"War is not healthy for children and other living things."
Also keep in mind that some countries have little nitpicks in films that cannot be shown (like headbutting in the UK). It is very possible that something small like that caused the 12 rating.
Wow, Halle Berry, you've been in more than 30 movies and you still can't act!
Well, it's not.
The Rating in Germany is "FSK 6"
I dont't know if it's a mistake here, but ist says (bw)
Whatever that means...
Fact is everyone who's over 5 could/can see it in Germany.
Which is, by the way, still too high, because Shrek is rated "without any restrictions" in Germany... we saw Chicken Run with our 4-year-old daughter the other day but I wouldn't show Shrek to her.

Not so long. Just once around the sun.
12 rating in Germany means no person under the age of 12 can see the film. The concept of "parental guidance" doesnt come into German ratings at all.
The reasons the film is so hgihly rated is because any film that bears in any form on what Germany was like in WWII is rated at least 12 there. Just in case questions are asked by kids, etc, etc, which their parents wouldnt want to tell them if they're under a certain age. I know probably not many children would get the references to WWII from this film, but its a general rule in Germany.
dont forget that they killed a chicken in the beggining- of course that wouldnt just bring a higher rating but that might of been part of it. there is also hidden sexual ideas in it. but i wouldnt know what the rater were thinking so only the could really answer it for us.
"To the German High Command- NUTS!"
