why do they not call each other by name?

I been asking myself this for 4 years. I been wondering why Mr. and Mrs. Tweety never call each other by name? Not sure if it's a common thing for old couples in Britian, but just find it strange in a way.

Do any of you know why?

reply

It's not common over here, it's because Mrs Tweedy doesn't like Mr Tweedy and only married him for his business! So she doesn't think it worthwhile to use his real name!

Also it makes them more humainised and we don't want that do we!

Ah ok, that would make since since she treated him more like a farmhand than a husband.

And to think it was something common in England.

Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy never struck me as a happily married couple, so I didn't find it surprising that they never referred to each other by name. They seemed to barely tolerate each other.

reply

Just out of interest, what do you think their first names are? I vaguely remember Mrs Tweedy mentioning her first name in the movie but I've just gone blank about it. What do you think everyone?

reply

I'm not too sure about their first names but on to the original question, all the answers given are right. But also in old times a lot of couples called each other 'Mr. Surname or Mrs. Surname' instead by their first names (check books such as Pride and prejudice or Jane Eyre.)

And this movie was supposed to take place in the 50's so maybe they tried to mimic the old times as well as the answers given by other users ;P.

Melicia Tweedy and Willard Tweedy

the names were revealed in the "Making Of" book for this film
