Over The Hedge connections--*spoil er alert*
I posted the following on the "Over The Hedge" board recently, and survived! :-D -- thought you might find it interesting:
{PREFACE: Please know that I am not one of those posters who hits the "rip-off key" at the slightest similarity, nor do I think that "Over The Hedge" was inspired by anything in a greater measure than the comic strip of the same name. A true rip-off is painfully obvious. Anything less is either coincidence or an honest error.}
Now that the legal stuff is out of the way, let's get to the fun. I happened to be thinking of "Chicken Run" one evening, another film I enjoy and laugh at profusely each time I watch. I noticed some plot points that are intriugingly similar, and I share them with you now:
1. One of the main protagonists is a concerned, cautious leader who seeks to protect a group of comrades, with interesting and diverse character, who are very much a family to this protagonist.
2. The other major protagonist literally drops into the lives of the family, with devil-may-care personality. Ostensibly, he desires to help the family, but he harbors a secret that could spell their doom.
3. One of the main antagonists is a power-hungry, cash-conscious vixen of a woman who exercises dominion over another of the antagonists, a rotund male. Her goal is the extermination of the protagonists, with the interest of making money at heart.
4. The two main protagonists find themselves at odds with each other until they undertake a harrowing, life-threatening mission together. Afterward, they begin to understand one another.
5. The devil-may-care protagonist's secret is revealed at the worst possible moment. He abandons the family, but returns with honest intent at a dark moment.
6. The climax involves a large flying vehicle.
7. The main antagonists are involved in a cataclysmic explosion.
8. In the end, the protagonists celebrate the promise of a future of safety and prosperity.
Got any others?
