Formulaic?

First, let me clarify that I have not seen the movies this one is often compared to.. namely the great escape and a bug's life..

While I enjoyed the movie, the plot seemed very formulaic to me.. maybe i've watched too many hollywood movies, but
"an outcast wanting to escape/free his society, a stranger comes as a ray of light, seems better than he is, a girl in the group hates him at first and then falls for him.. the old guy who suspects him and later accepts him, he wants to tell her the truth, doesn't, runs away or she finds out and make him go away, they do whatever they wanted his help with themselves, he comes at the end to help... they succeed" i mean this plot seems very very familiar to me, beaten down by countless tales and interpretations and i could see where the movie was going right when the american rooster landed..
what do you guys think, do i have something here or is it "all in my head"?
