Okay, is it just me, or did the filmmakers draw inspiration from Scotty on "Star Trek" when they were writing Mac's lines? I mean, come on - Mac's Scottish, she's good at engineering - what more do you want? What do you guys think?
shareI would have to agree that they DEFINITELY had Scotty in mind. The clincher for that one really is toward the end, when the plane shakes and Fowler shouts "What was that?" and Mac replies "A cling-on, captain!". Though it was a really bad pun, it cracked me up something fierce and cemented your theory in my mind.

You're right! I have watched this about 20 times, and caught the "cling-on"
reference last night watching it with my 3 year old grandson! LOL!
"OOO...I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"
What she actually says is "It's a cling-on captain and the engines can't take it!"

IMDb also lists Star Trek among the cultural texts referenced in this movie, so Mac is undoubtedly no coincidence.
