Just like Donnie Darko
I compare the two films because of how they both make you think, even though we'll never really understand them. Anyone else feel this way?

I hated donnie darko so i dont remember
shareYou're right, it's just like Donnie Darko, except that it's nothing like Donnie Darko.
formerly Pastor-Of-Muppets
Yeah, theyre right
Its not hard to understand, but weird as *beep*
I didn't like Donnie Darko, mainly because its the kind of movie that could've been more instead of leaving things unclear... It's a matter of tastes
Being John Malkovich 8/10
Donnie Darko 5/10

A lot of David Lynch movies are out there and overrated, IMO.
I'm not a fan. He puts together scenes that are good for the set pieces and imagery, but the movies make little sense. Then it is supposed to be deep and surreal.
It's the work of a Hollywood weirdo who has ingested too much cocaine.
Donnie Darko is one of my favorite films of all time. Everything about it is perfect in my mind. The soundtrack alone to Donnie Darko is better than Being John Malkovich.
Being John Malkovich 7/10
Donnie Darko 10/10
I agree 100 percent steffeeric. In fact I just rated this a 7/10 as well!
shareI like darko better but this is cool too.
shareI wouldn't say it's "just like" Donnie Darko, but it's in that same category... if we can establish such a category. I don't know of many other movies you could categorize in this group, maybe A Clockwork Orange or Dead Man? It is definitely one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. In my case, that's a good thing because I like weird and quirky movies.
You do get the feeling there is more to this movie than meets the eye. A deeper meaning or message. There seems to be a very deliberate blurring of sexuality or traditional roles of sexuality and this repeats itself throughout the film. Oh hey, look... I called it a "film!"
[Isn't it interesting how we somehow make a high-brow distinction between "films" and "movies" ...as if to say there is something more "artistic" about a "film," whereas a "movie" is simply mental masturbation for entertainment any poor schlep can enjoy.]
In any event, this was both a film and movie, it had artistic depth and meaning like a film while entertaining like a movie. Pretty tough feat to pull off when writing. I thought it was pretty good stuff but probably not appealing to everyone. It's just one of those kind of films/movies. :D
