1999 / 2000 - last few years for totally original movies?

This movie, Mulholland Drive and a handful of others from this period 1999/2000/2001 - marked the end of the line for off-the-cuff totally 100 % original movies. No?

Seems like after this period-- things / culture / movies started to go downhill - we as a culture "ran out of gas". Now the remakes and remakes and prequels and endless superhero movies....endless fan-boy crap......It's Comic-Con Nation,..... endless end-of-the-world movies...endless CGI...and oh Endless examination of Stanley Kubrick! LOL
I really cannot take much more...... Can you ?

Mulholland Drive is no more original than anything else David Lynch has done, and he's been making movies since the 70's. Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze who were responsible for this film have also been making original movies to this day. Terence Malick hasn't stopped making movies.

You just picked a completely arbitary time, and no, things weren't better in the old days.

I would include "American Splendor" for if not necessarily totally new an intriguing , inventive movie. I love how it used actors and the real people who the actors portrayed in the same film. Superb acting all around too.
