Fat Billy Bob Thornton?!

He played that nasty fat mechanic and I didn't recognize until the end credits... But I know him as a thin fit Ed Crane and in other roles, like in "Sling Blade" or "Monster's Ball"... How could he obtain that looks? Makeup? But his face looked pretty round too. Or did he brought up his belly DeNiro-style?

reply

he was husky too in tombstone

Well, I checked his trivia section here, on IMDb: "Gained about 50 pounds for his role as the auto mechanic in "U- Turn"

He was fat in Sling Blade.MMM HHMMM.Got any french fried potaters in there?

reply

i could just tell by his voice. its pretty distinct.

Billy Bob's character is "lifted" straight out of 50s flick, DADDY-O. same look. same speech patterns.

reply

I did not recognize him in this flick. It's almost like I almost couldn't recognize Dustin Hoffman in Hook.

He was always FAT til' Angelina Jolie gave him AIDS. But who cares,...wanted bad to like this, but the 'Calliope' F'n' 'type' music and dumb-ass character's turned me way off. My score,...a big fat Billy Bob Zero!

I pity the fool who talks about Billy Bob like that!

reply

I didn't think he was fat. Fat are all the people I see trying to fit into the Wal-Mart sliding doors with entire undigested Big Macs falling out of their @$$ cracks - a major reason I avoid going to box stores and fast food areas. *PUKE*

Meanwhile, Billy Bob played this type of character, but seriously and to great effect, in The Apostle. Great role.

yes, when i first saw this movie, it was only one or two years old then, that must have been the strangest, oddest character in the movie. atleast thats what i thought back then, i've seen the movie more recently too.

i don't want to know,
where my old school mates are today,
i failed in everything, so i don't want to hear what you've got to say,
they might have a sucessfull career, family, with an expensive car,
it tortures me to hear it, becouse i never made it that far,
i tried as good as i could in this world, but everything i touched turned bad,
there just isn't any place for me, and no person to understand this messed up head i have,
don't invite me to a reunion, i slipped off the road, and i got stuck in the mud and sand,
don't tell me what is happening outside this ditch, if you would be so kind as to please understand,

He had an eating disorder after that.

He looked large and somewhat overweight in U Turn - and he looked like a big man to me in Slingblade - and yet I've seen him in other films where he looked thin to the point of being underweight.

I don't know for sure if it's make-up in regards to his weight. I suspect Billy Bob is one of those whose weight varies a lot. (Of course, I know he was wearing various props/make-up in U Turn--with the goggles, the grease, the bad teeth, and I'm not sure if that was even his own nose.)

DeNiro gained 50 lbs., I think I read, when he played Jack LaMotta in Raging Bull. DeNiro is another one that looks different in various films.

Billy Bob NEVER looks the same way twice to me, not just the weight but everything about him. He just submerges into the character he plays.

reply

I know what you mean. I looked for him all over the movie and dind't recognized him until...now.

If you watch Tombstone, Blood In Blood Out, Sling Blade, or U Turn; Billy Bob has a rounder face and a belly, and he did specifically gain 50lbs for U Turn. But ever since Armageddon (ugggh, the movie, not Billy Bob), he has been thin.
