The horseshoe pitching scene

At about 75min into the movie, after Penn beats up Phoenix and phones JLo, and after JLo goes to Nolte and stares at the key around his neck, we see a scene where some guys are pitching horseshoes. Also we hear some very nice violin music. In this scene Boothe is drinking whiskey and is staring into nowhere. What was that about.
Especially the two second scene after we see Boothe, the police light and the two pictures of the sun, or the cat together with the dog, are two very nice takes.

Also, is the violin music part on the soundtrack?

If you notice, also, in the "Horseshoe" scene, Booth is so tanked he can hardly stand up.

"I'm a vehemently anti-nuclear, paranoid mess, harbouring a strange obsession with radioactive sheep."

hey, Nosmas-1...According to me, those few seconds are the best in the whole movie. Check out Boothe´s face. A true master at work.

I've watched those few seconds about a hundred times since I saw U Turn the first time a couple of weeks ago. Boothe's face is the best part.
For me it displays, in contrast to what the movie might want to show, the general sense of being lost in this world and in the human state of mind. We're just trying to life past the day and to arrive at those 80 something years where we are allowed to stop.

it tried to show this was a place where normal people live, despite the weirdos we see
