Unsatisfactory ending (SPOILER)

The rad hose blowing again was a bit of a weak final sting. It would have been better if Grace after pushing Bobby over the canyon, she was to take off with his car and money only to be stopped round the next bend by the gang leader and a bullet promptly put in her head. He takes the money and drives off. The End.
Of course he would have to be written into the screenplay more, perhaps doing some detective work, gradually catching up, entering the husbands house seeing the scene of violence and noticing the open safe.

Good point after all it was about Bobby, but I did feel a bit let down with the ending. At one point I thought the eagle-as Grace reincarnated-was going to attack him and take out his eyes.

reply

I think it had to be Bobby in the end thinking he had the chance to get away. It's the point of the movie, i.e. Bobby is ruthless and will do anything to get out, he's only been there for 1 day and wants to go back (U-Turn) while Grace has always been stuck there.

This film is Murphy's Law in action. Whatever could go wrong, did go wrong.

I didn't think it should have ended any other way.

"a malcontent who knows how to spell"

reply

Agreed irish, I thought the ending was the perfect cherry on top to the film!

reply

I didn't take it as one-too-many coincidences. I took it as Billy Bob probably gave him a faulty replacement hose for being such a dick.

reply

True but then again Billy Bob was the prick to begin with. His job was to fix his car but he was very bossy and sarcastic. He couldn't keep his dislike for Bobby to himself. He also hustled Bobby out of his money by 'fixing' more things then were initially agreed upon. That Bobby had the luck of running into an annoying, sabotaging mechanic is just again another piece of bad luck.

reply

If it was Penn or somebody else, he would still be conned. Penn was giving him attitude, acting smart and running his mouth from the start towards Bob. This is the reason why Bob did him over a little bit more.

reply

Toward the end I was thinking that a better "Murphys Law" ending would have been if while they were both at the bottom of the ravine kissing, the car slips out of gear and roles off the cliff...killing them both.

reply

Yeah, I thought the ending was perfect back then and I think the same thing now.

reply

i like the ending.

I thought the ending was tragically hilarious. I watched it with 4 of my friends, 2 liked the movie while the 2 didn't but said that the ending almost made up for the rest of the movie.
