Did Darrell *beep* up the car on purpose or was he such a stupid mechanic ? What was wrong with the car ?

I really wondred if Darrell did it on purpose. He did give the gun out of Bobby's trunk to Jake, and Bobby(or at least the viewer) sees a flashback of him laughing. On the other hand, I didn't really consider the possibility that Darrell fixed him up with a bad radiator hose until the third time I saw it, and he's not portrayed as an intelligent man(although according to him he has a "reputation" to maintain). Probably one of those things in movies that's meant to be ambiguous.
share My opinion is that it was a legit fixup, since he was going to sell the car if Penn didn't retrieve it; but he had to use a used radiator hose from his boneyard there, and if there is one thing to know about cars, every time you even take off the original hose, you are supposed to replace it with a brand new one, which he didn't do.

If you get a blown radiator pipe you should replace the radiator cap, because if it's faulty and doesn't vent steam pressure then you get a pipe blowing. A blown pipe can show an underlying fault, which could be lots of things.
I think the film leaves you to decide if Darrell did it on purpose, I think he knew it wasn't fixed lol.
