Why does Hollywood think all Arizonians have Texas accents?
Hello, I'm from a town literally about 70 miles east of Superior, AZ. I'm a huge fan of "Raising Arizona", think "U-Turn" is an okay movie, not a great flick. Just wondering though, do people outside of my state know that we don't all speak in Texas accents?
Everyone in "Raising AZ" - classically though, not complaining in the least bit - speaks in a Texas accent, as do most characters in "U-Turn". Truthfully, most people from Arizona have the standard American accent, a little bit borderline on the California-dude accent. You'll hear some older men & women speak in the Texas accent, but only because they migrated from Texas or somewhere close.
I just think it's funny. Maybe it's because of our wild west history.
Long live Toby N Tucker & HI, but dudes - we're closer to California & Nevada than we are Texas.
