Great Ending(Spoilers)
Those two got what they deserved. Who agrees?
shareI thought the ending was horrible.
sharewell you shouldn't lie to your friends.
i also thought the ending was perfect. they have two alternate endings that are "happy". on the boat in one they get to keep the money *beep* stupid), and in the other ending he takes the money and lets them live. both sucked, the whore and saint must die.
Indeed. I enjoyed the film thoroughly, but when the boat scene rolled in, I began afraid it would conclude with something idiotic and happy, thinking "Oh, Christ, it'll close with Walken letting them go for 'sentimental reasons', and probably because some idiot test audience demanded that..."
Thank heavens it turned out to be the exact opposite.

I agree. They both deserved to get nailed at the end. Good ending for an average film.
Is it Safe?

I agree that the two people got what they deserved. I thought the ending was so worth it. The only thing I didnt like about it was when Denis Leary shot Jay Mohr in the leg. I thought that was so mean. lol. The ending kicked ass. and so did Christopher Walken.
Willst Du, bis der Tod Euch scheide
treu ihr sein fur alle Tagen?
Nein!
Nein!
Actually, the test audiences felt Max and Elise needed to pay for their betrayals so, thankfully, that ending was used.
shareI don't know. I like that it was daring, and it was definitely realistic so I appreciate that. I guess there's just something dissatisfying about watching two characters you were partially sympathizing with get iced, and then just like that the credits start rolling. I think the way it happened in a completely different time and place also made it seem kind of disconnected from the rest of the film. But maybe I'm over-analyzing. If I had to choose I might have gone for ending #2, where he lets them live but takes the money and sinks the boat. At least he's not letting them off that way.
"I am Jack's wasted life."

I don't know if they deserved to die, but at least it's less disturbing than what I imagined. I'm starting to get tired of pissy test audiences though; they demanded the death of a brilliant character in "Orphan" too. Sometimes they're useful, but the writers should never sacrifice what they find to be artistic integrity if it comes to that. This ending seems fitting and ironic, whether totally deserved or not.
