Batman II remark to Walken

I saw the movie last night and noticed when they were all playing poker...one of the guys say something like...you look like the guy who gave fish wrapped in newspaper... I didnt quite catch all of it but he was making a comment about the movie Batman II. Walken played a character aiding The Penguin.

reply

The actual quote is something like:
Ira : "Did you ever send someone a fish wrapped in newspaper?"

I don't know about the reference to Batman II though.

reply

Not to be rude but that's pretty dumb. A fish wrapped in newspaper is an old sterotype for mobsters. They say they give a fish in newspaper to somebody their going to kill, because they'll be "sleeping with the fishes".

I think what he was refering to was that the Batman reference was pretty dumb.

reply

Lame joke, perhaps. But a reference to The Penguin would be germaine.

reply

What's dumb is someone thinks it's a Batman II reference instead of The Godfather.

reply

Who's dumber?...The one who makes the Batman/Penguin connection (seeing as Walken was in a Batman movie where that did happen), or the one who thinks fish are "RAPED" in newspapers??

Hey Ralphie...spell Potato! (I'll give you a hint, there's no E in it)

reply

First off, never TYPE "spell potato" and expect it to be funny.

Second off, considering the context of the reference joke, I think the more intelligent person is bound to dive for the Godfather reference.

So, I do not understand why y'all are going on about fish "raped" in newspaper, because I do not see anyone to have made that error in this thread. How did this whole thing begin with y'all? And the reference is most likely a mobster reference, not a Batman reference, but, hey, I could be wrong! But did anyone notice when Walken made fun of the way Jay Mohr talks? It is when they are playing poker with Charlie and he asks Brett to join them. Brett refuses and Charlie says "No fraternizing, eh, OK, have it your 'way'". When he says "way", he mimics Jay Mohr's accent and raises his eyebrows in the same manner Jay Mohr does. I thought it was hysterical.

reply

No. I think given that makers of the film VERY self-consciously had Walken say a line that was from Pulp Fiction (which he starred in), the most likely proximate source being referenced is the Batman film that Walken was in.

Please do not make negative comments about a film YOU NEVER SAW. It makes you look stupid.

reply

lol, the most proximate reference is a movie walken is in where a character likes to eat fish, or a reference to mafia movies where a character sends another character A FISH WRAPPED IN NEWSPAPER?

reply

The frickin reference is from "The Godfather", when they send a dead fish wrapped in Luca's bulletproof vest. End of discussion.

reply

maybe whats dumb is that you all call 'batman returns' ,'batman II'!

reply

I'm pretty sure the reference was to Godfather I where Luca Brasi's soaked bullet-proof vest containing a large dead fish arrives at the "mattresses" wrapped in wet newspapers and Clemenza says "It's a Sicilian message -- Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes." Nice irony -- Clemenza means "clemency, forgiveness)!

reply

I think this is a reference to the greatest gangster film ever made The Godfather.
