Alternate ending
I haven't had a chance to catch the alternate endings on the DVD. Could anyone please fill me in? I feel the movie was superb, but the ending they chose was unfitting.

As I was watching the alternate endings on the dvd, I realized the ending I wanted to see was for Walken to punish Elise for thinking she could get away with it, since it was revealed it was all HER idea. Lono should have shot Max in front of her, taken the money away, and THEN shot 9 holes in the boat. Let her try to 'splain all that.

Solomon you aren't. It's her fault so shoot her boyfriend???? DO you really think someone so amoral would have trouble forgetting the whole thing.
shareYou sure got that free_hat. I loved the ending the way it was.
shareI've just seen it and they had yet another different ending, in that they shot the two lovers. And I don't think it was the nine shot ending mentioned below because I definitely only heard 2 shots.

Ah cool. In that case I'm not certain why people are complaining, I think the ending works.

It was a perfect ending the way it was, absolutely how it should turn out, they *beep* with some dangerous dudes and they were NEVER gonna get away with it, bang bang both dead, perfect. That alternate ending where Carlos gives them $20,000 and lets them live would be terrible and ruin the movie.

I would have preferred it to have been a caper movie where the theives get away. The ending shot should have the couple chillin on the boat with the Remy Zero song without Walken or Leary in the scene

Nah,that would make the film end on a cliffhanger. In this,it closes.
I think the 2nd alternate ending would have worked. We see in the film that Leary's character and Walken's character don't like violence against women, I feel that it was out of character for both, especially since Charley was supposed to be going straight.
The romantic ending would have been good, if they shot the scene that was in the script with Charley and the girl from Just Shoot Me, you could understand why he would let them off with 20G.

Join the real world. Guys don't become mob bosses because they respect women and are sentimental. They become bosses because people know if they *beep* with them, they'll be dead. To let someone get away with ripping him off would cause him to lose respect. Plus, a guy who chooses that life isn't someone who would put up with getting screwed over. The ending was the only one thta wouldn't be totally Hollywood bs.
shareI think the ending where they get shot is the only real ending that this movie could have. I enjoyed the ending & would have been didappointed with any other.
Peace
i dunno, i think i would have been perfectly happy with them taking back *all* the money and shooting holes in the boat.
killing them in tahiti isn't going to send a message the way that leaving them alive to tell the story (and suffer daddy's wrath) would.
I agree. Most mob guys (in the movies anyway, except Joe Pesci's characters) don't kill women or kids. Elise was a ditz who didn't understand how things work any more than the guys did. She wanted to get away from her parents and the guys had their own motives. I wonder what happened to THEM!
I like to think of Ira being taken under Charlie's wing as his consiglieri, maybe the non-violent understudy of Lono. Leary, Walken and Galecki were all freaking hilarious!
"So, you're wearin' fish boots."
She deserves her revenge, and we deserve to die.
While it was a bit corny, I liked the first alternate ending the best. Where Charlie almost shoots them, then changes his mind and gives them a little bit of money to be on their way.
Funniest part was when Lono tells Max as they leave, "I liked you a lot better when you were mean".
I love dark endings on lots of movies (like Reservoir Dogs), but I never saw Suicide Kings as much of a dark, gritty drama. Only 2 people died in the movie (the fake kidnapping scumbags in the hotel room) and the movie made me laugh probably more times than any Adam Sandler movie.
So I dont understand the whole line... "oh well, it was too dark a movie to end on happy note". It was a Comedy first and foremost I think.
Anyways, still one of my favorite movies of all time. Glad they gave us the altnerate endings. In my mind, I'll just pick the one I like =)
You know what? I really had a problem with the original ending the first time I saw this movie (I'm a happy-ending addict), but after seeing the alternate endings, I'm glad they went with the one they chose.
The only thing that really bugged me was the commentary over the alternate endings. I would have liked an option that would have let me view those with no commentary.
"You should respect my addiction. It's a disease. I need help, but just, not right now, okay?"

If you press (I think) the audio button on your DVD remote while the scene plays it should turn off the commentary.
That's awesome...thank you!

I hate it in movies like this one where the people who steal the money or what ever get off scott free, and when I was afraid that was going to happen, but when I saw Cristopher Walken and Dennis Leary on the boot at the end I had a smerk on my face, and when Leary raised to gun it got even bigger, I thought it was a very dark and very brilliant ending, perfect for the film. Like a few of you have said already you dont become a mob boss for just *beep* around.
The MPAA just a buch of wacko's in buisness suits.
one thing that's always bugged me about watching the alternate endings was the director babbling through them. never knew you actually could shut him up. thanks man!
shareHow many endings are there? The one I saw was the one that ended with 2 gun shots
shareMy problem with the ending was that Max and Elise were smart enough to plan and execute a highly intricate caper but stupid enough to "escape" on a yacht that must have been registered somewhere and could have been easily traced. To make a clean getaway in their situation they should -- for example -- have boarded a Greyhound-type bus (where the drivers don't verify IDs)and gone somewhere without leaving a trail. On arriving at the bus's destination they should have boarded another bus headed for some other destination, gotten off before the bus arrived at that destination and then offered some random guy lots of cash in exchange for his car no-questions-asked. At that point even Charlie with all his connections would have had a very hard time finding them even in the highly unlikely event he could have found out about the first bus they boarded. The fact that this is just one of several simple and successful strategies they could have employed makes their decision to buy a highly conspicuous and easily traced seaworthy craft like a yacht seem a far too lame-brained choice for a couple that had pulled off such a complicated caper.
shareAs someone who was once at the outer Circle of the criminal world, {private detective}it can be hard for the police to catch the criminal, but as Walken said "the street never lies" and criminals never escape from there crimes unless there in nobody left alive to catch up with them.
The trouble with money is it's like blood in the water and the Sharks soon appear.
