distance between Earth/Klendathu.....

As much as i love this film,THAT issue has always bothered me.if the bugs fire an asteroid from their system towards earth-unless they have hyperspace travel-it would take millions of years to get there plus...targeting would be a REAL problem.....

reply

Yea Klendathu was on the other side of the Galaxy if the bugs could of develop that kind of tech to fire a astroid it would take 100k years to reach earth just at light speed, even in the book it was never really explain how the bugs can move from planet to planet.

reply

Yeah it does. The book says the bugs have their own navy.

the entire movie is just fantasy, don't loose your time thinking about it, there is little science in it.

There are hundreds of millions of stars and solar systems in this galaxy, plotting a path toward earth for an asteroid by a bug shooting plasma from their ass is clearly not possible, also a direct path may not even be possible.

If you want something with more science watch star trek TNG or voyager.

I'd add that the distance between Earth and Klendathu is part of Verhoeven's attempt at satire.
Verhoeven repeatedly is undercutting the message from the story. Making the "Bug" planet a ridiculous distance from earth adds to the silliness of the story which was Verhoeven's intention.

BB ;-)

it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈

reply

Chances are the asteroid wasn't even caused by the bugs. I always interpreted it as the Federation wanting a reason to invade Klendathu.

distance between Earth/Klendathu.....

The idea conveyed by the makers of this movie, with the distance between humans and arachnids, is, that the arachnids are in no way a threat to the humans.

It's meant to make you question the meaning of the war. The galaxy is huge, the arachnids are 2000 light years away from Earth. Yet, out of all the possibilities and opportunities and resources laying out there for the humans to enjoy, they end up waging war against a species that obviously lacks lightspeed travel technology.

The arachnids don't have lightspeed travel technology, they don't even have space ships! They spread through their system by means of spores, or so the man inside the Tv tells us.
But if they spread by spores, this means it would take them millions of years to get to our solar system, as the spores don't travel at the speed of light, and Earth is 2000 light years away from Klendathu!

Humans do have lightspeed travel technology, even better, wormhole technology, as we can see Rico being sent to Klendathu system in no time!

That means that the asteroid we see "entering our solar system in the vicinity of Jupiter", is actually one of our own solar system's asteroids, that we can find plenty of them in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars, or on the same orbit as Jupiter!

What Starship Troopers the movie is trying to make you do, is to question the nature of the American and European paradigm. A fascist paradigm, where by a psychopathic oppressing class indoctrinates and traumatizes the exploited class, through war.
The psychopathic character of the oppressing class in Starship Troopers, is portrayed by Sky Marshal Dienes, whom they find hiding in a closet on that outpost on Arachnids' planet, while everybody else perished fighting the Arachnids.

The "asteroid incident" in Starship Troopers, is the same type of false flag as the "Gulf of Tonkin incident" used by American oppressing class against the American citizens, to send them to die by the tens of thousands in a war against Vietnam in 1965.
It is the same type of false flag as the "Gleiwitz incident" used by the German oppressing class against the German citizens, to send them to die by the millions in a war against the rest of Europe in 1939.
It is the same type of false flag as the "World Trade Center incident" used by the American oppressing class against the American citizens, to send them to die by the thousands, in a war against Iraq and Afghanistan, in 2003
It is the same type of false flag as the "USS Maine incident" used by the American oppressing class against the American citizens, to send them to die by the thousands, in a war against Spain, in Cuba in 1898.

If the Bugs are limited to sublight speeds, how are they present on multiple planets?

Those multiple planets were inside the Klendathu solar system. It's like us humans spreading to Mars or Ganymede.

Since they "spread through spores", that means they obviously lack space transportation, therefore they lack light speed transportation. Unless you think their spores spread at lightspeed, or even faster, ludicrous speed...

If that's the case, then the movie is even more ridiculous than I thought... which is difficult to believe.

It is inferred in the scene where the students dissect the bugs, that the bugs lack space travel. When the teacher says that even if the bugs are stupid in comparison with the humans, they are the result of millions of years of evolution, to which Carmen replies "but humans have space travel". This means that the bugs can't travel through space.
For the bugs to reach our solar system 2000 light years away from their system, the only way they can do it is by "hurling their spores into space", and hope for the best...

The movie is subversive. On the surface, it's just another movie about humans fighting off an alien threat.

Below the surface, it's a different story. Think only how Sky Marshal Dienes goes from the supreme leader of the human race, to a mindless coward hiding in a closet on that outpost, while every marine died trying to protect him.

What the makers of this movie are trying to tell you is, that you are sacrificing your life for the survival of a bunch of psychos. Sky Marshal Dienes, the former supreme leader of the human race, is killed by an arachnid, as the marines themselves were about to execute him, for his despicable behavior.

Note that I don't consider the people who are in power to be psychos. I think the relation between the oppressors and the exploited is way more complex. But this movie is what it is, with its message, representing the opinion of its makers.

LOL that isn't the retired Sky Marshal.. your posts are hilarious.
