The CGI in this movie has truly stood the test of time. The bugs look very legit and I think the special effects department of this film is really underrated.

I agree.
Of course CGI have gotten prettier as the technology has evolved but in my opinion some of the most realistic CGI-creations were from the 90s.
Movies like Avatar are pretty but movies like Jurassic Park and Starship Troopers have excellent CGI and realistic looking creatures.

I agree, I am watching it again right now. The effects have held up even by today's standards. Not just the CGI but the other effects as well.

Weren't the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park animatronics rather than CGI, though?

It was a combination. Both animatronics and CGI was used.
