The mobile infantry training is Essentially a specialized training all recruits are heavily trained in hand to hand combat yet Zander fought him on relatively equal terms which simply isn't realistic
just compare it to a Airman fighting a Navy seal, or green beret, delta force etc etc
just not going to happen

I'm sure Rico wasn't thinking clearly, since he was pissed (I know I wouldn't be able to in that situation) and perhaps Zander kept up his fitness - he played sports in school as well.

Agreed. Plus, look at people today. I work with plenty of 8-5 business men who moonlight as amateur MMA fighters by night. Zander could have enjoyed working out, combat training, etc. He obvious knows how to fight, given that he is pretty aggressive with weapons when they crash land on the planet AND when they drop ship in to pick up the survivors from the outpost. Plus he was a bigger guy that little Casper.
