Suspension of Disbelief Needed

1. They're supposed to be graduating from high school, but the guys all look like they're pushing thirty while the girls appear to be in their mid-twenties.
2. The time frame is totally askew: Carmen is already flying huge starships--yeah, right--and Rico and Dizzy are still in basic training. I don't care how much natural talent you have, it takes a long time to learn how to fly complicated machinery.

Maybe I've seen too many "Everything Wrong With . . ."videos, but it's annoying.

It's related to what I said in another thread... as a pilot, Carmen is an officer, so she does everything better (and faster) than enlisted. :)

reply

And she does it while smiling, smiling, smiling like a Miss Universe contestant.

reply

That smile is plastic surgery-it was implanted!

I figure she and Casper thought they had a lock on the big time

but they only made mediocrity

You didn't get a response between 16:12:23 and 16:50:05, so you post this thread a second time??!!

reply

That was not intentional at all. I'm not sure how that happened. I certainly didn't need an answer and only came back to note that by the time I finally finished the film I was rooting wholeheartedly for the bugs.

reply

It's actually been happening a few times on boards lately.

Anyways...

1 - "In the commentary track on the DVD, Verhoeven remarks that he had hoped to cast actors whose age more closely matched that of the characters—and indeed of real-world soldiers—but that the producers felt such actors would look too young".

2 - I learned to drive a car, tank, truck, LGV and ride a motorcycle, all in less than 22 working days. Some were even faster, but the average is 25. If you have the aptitude, it goes a long way!

Maybe I've seen too many "Everything Wrong With . . ."videos, but it's annoying.

Possibly... but you can never see too many Honest Trailers!! 

It's a fictional movie made for action. not for perfection. It's full of plot holes, but you overlook them for the sake of enjoying the movie. This movie never intended to be perfect in any way. It's like pointing out plot holes in a Chuck Norris movies. You'll find dozens, but you don't care, because it's not a friggin documentary.

these things you have troubles with... but alien insects shooting plasma out of their butts with enough power and accuracy to knock asteroids into direct contact with inhabited planets you don't blink twice at?!

It's hot... but not as hot as the night Johnny Viti got married...

reply

Agree with what you said but dude, it's suspension of belief. Suspension of disbelief would mean you do believe it.

reply

yes.. suspension of belief is needed...in all sci-fi films...

this is better than I expected..
