how did Casper Van Dien get the lead in a 100 million dollar film?
he was practically an unknown when this film was being produced? i'm surprised the studio didn't demand a more known actor in the role of Rico.

and i completely agree with their decision. The cgi was worth it and basically what the film was worth seeing over its promotions. They didnt need a-list acting or much acting if you ask me. Casper was perfect for the role, even if they had casted an a-lister i dont think they wouldve topped casp. Plus he had the perfect look they needed. I think this is one of the films his best remembered for.

James Marsden and Mark Wahlberg both turned it down. Marsden could have been great, but I still like Casper in the role.

I think James Marsden wouldve been just as good. He looks like Casper twin but i think Carper did a perfect job. He played the character perfect, he looked like the typical air head that didnt know why hot girls were after him. He looked like the type that would do something as stupid as leave his family and career over a girl and be oblivious about girls being after him. He seemed like the type that would be really into the military and combat. I dont know he seemed to do it right. At the time i thought it was an average role but looking back not many wouldve done as good as him and have the right look.
Wahlberg im sick of being in everything and im not sure i wouldve liked him in this film, like i didnt like him in planet. I liked casper in this and he shouldve gotten more roles. Dont know why he didnt make it big.
