What happened to their nukes and grenades?

When they got ambushed on Planet P, all they used were their guns. But the whole time they had nukes and grenades, even Dizzy uses a grenade to kill the beatle as they tried to escape the compound. I know its a movie, but dangit nuke the bastards or at least use a grenade. The bugs were clumped together so tightly it would of been a lot of easy kills with just one grenade!

It was a 1950s bug flick.

I guess nukes were out.

reply

What? They literally used nukes 5 minutes before this scene... Unless you are making a joke and it went over my head?

reply

And how would the '50s exclude a nuke... do you know when nukes were developed?

reply

I wondered the same thing until I remembered... making things easier for the good guys in movies is a big no no. Isn't it? The enemy can't be killed off so easily.

You want something corny? You got it!

I have mentioned it elsewhere but those assault rifles most of them carry seem to make little impression on the bugs, unless they hit a nerve stem that is about the size of a large postage stamp.

"Chicken soup - with a *beep* straw."

It's a good question. Besides the answer of it would of made the attack on the fallen base less exciting and it was creative license, the only thing I could come up with was when they fired the nukes it was usually at a cave or bug hole, or a big ass bug. Maybe a flat terrain with nothing to lock on to would make it hard to shoot them. However, they auto detonated one in the cave later so they can set them off manually. Maybe they couldn't get it far enough away by manually detonating them. It's not a great arguement, and doesn't include grenades, but it's all I could think of besides the writers wanted to keep scene more intense.

reply

Perhaps they expended all their explosive ordinance previously and the base was out as well.
