how did this not win a Razzie
Wow. This was so bad that I think everybody involved in it should come here and appologize to the film-viewing community.

Seriously? This movie was *beep* great. What's wrong with you?
"It's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything."
This movie makes complete sense. The thing is, though, I read the book first. I suppose it's possible that they didn't spell out enough detail in the movie adaption to make it clear for people of sub-average intelligence. A growing problem in the United States, where being dumber is a race to the bottom at least half the population eagerly participate in.

forgive me for not having a class but if you was too thick to understand this movie you should stick to sticoms for the rest of your life.

Brilliant!
shareExcuse us dear sir for intruding on the earth, us mere mortals who consider this movie a steaming turd clearly don't deserve to share the land or seas with your magnificent presence.

So, what exactly didn't make sense to you?
Well stated! I never understood why so many people hated this movie. I thought of this movie last night and was hoping it was still on Netflix; I guess I will be buying this movie soon. It was great when I saw it 16 years ago and still just as great.
I know you must think this is all very unfair. Maybe that's an understatement. What you don't know is I agree. I wish the world was a place where fair was the bottom line, where the kind of idealism you showed at the hearing was rewarded, not taken advantage of. Unfortunately, we don't live in that world.
Funny, I've always believed that the world is what we make of it.

Only saw it once in the theaters 13 years ago and just remember it being just plain boredom enhanced.

This movie wasn't bad at all. The characters were great, the movie was eerie as hell too.

I read the book, and it was better, but that's almost always the case. The only movie I can think of off hand that was actully better than the book is Jaws.
I still enjoyed this film though. Wasn't superb or anything, but I don't think it deserved a Razzie. I mean, it isn't like it's a Star Wars prequel or something sh!tty like that. And I didn't really think it had any plot holes. I know there's some upset over the keyboard translation thing, but since all the messages on the screen after Harry was typing were sent by Harry's subconcious mind, I have no problem with the spelling being correct when it shouldn't be. When you have a situation where anything and everything can happen just because someone imagined it, you can explain most any "plot hole" you can think of.

I'm gonna answer you by pasting what another user in here said (a user that didn't like the film btw):
"Didn't read the book. Literature and film are two completely different art forms, each required to stand on their own."
So, there you go. It doesn't matter if the film doesn't follow the book closely. You should appreciate it as a film, not as how close to the source is.
It's funny I read the book after watching the movie, and honestly after reading the book I couldn't see a faithful adaption. Rocket-tipped spear guns shooting at a giant octopus (squid, sorry if I got it wrong). That's just one example of something that would just look silly in a movie. Mind you, it's my second favorite Crichton book, but a faithful adaption is out of the question.
Like you said Tales, as you re-posted, movies are going to be different than their source material because there are different requirements for film. I would HATE the Harry Potter films, Jurassic Park, most of the stuff based on a Phillip K. Dick novel, Lord of the Rings, and many, many more, if I went in to them thinking they'd be like the books. Jurassic Park (novel) is almost a polar opposite of the film in that it's darker, and, semi-spoiler, people who live in the book die in the movie, vice versa. You have to have an open mind with movies based on novels or any type of literary work.

I also just remember it as being bad. Maybe I will rewatch it now after all these years.
shareGood film IMO it was an eerie thriller, did what it said on the tin and even gave something to think about. Yeah it wasn't the best thing ever but hardly worth bashing.
shareWell this poster from his/her history enjoys trolling and negative speaking in general, but while bringing up an old thread from a relatively obscure movie at this point I'll throw some logic at the situation.
1998 Golden Raspberry Nominees:
The Postman (winner)
Anaconda
Batman & Robin
Fire Down Below
Speed 2
So really, when you think about it no actual human being pre-transformed by the internet into a weird keyboard mashing glob of hatred could consider this movie worse than any of those. I gave a 7/10, so it wasn't amazing but not worse than these. Then again I absolutely love Batman & Robin, but simply because of how god-awful it was. Great drunken movie.
Still when it comes to Razzie nominations it's absurd to suggest that any half-decent movie be suggested. This person is clearly proud of how cool they are simply by knowing what the Razzie's even are, and enjoys trolling. That's my post, goodnight everybody!

You look like a goddamn, strange sort of Mexican Grimace
Batman & Robin should have won; The Postman was a piece of art compared to B&R.
I actually liked Sphere, my kind of sci-fi; it had it's bad moments, but overall it was pretty good.
Hmmmm it'S not perfect but it's not bad either, i give this movie a 7... great promise but didn't end very well ! Still, top notch acting!!!
Last Movies: - Star Trek Into Darkness: 4/5
- Pain & Gain: 3,5/5
- Oblivion: 4/5
Why so much hate?? I kinda liked the movie... lolz
