So is Jerry one of the crew members of the spaceship? He seems really pretty human. Perhaps he killed the almond guy sitting in the chair and, then made some footprints before turning into a liquid gold sphere... Hell, I would.
Nope. Jerry is Harry. They just got the letters wrong when deciphering. He's able to project himself and communicate through the computer because he went into the sphere.
ah, you've cut me down to size with Occam's razor, dang it!!
But I still hold that my theory of spontaneous spheroidadosis provides the greater explanation of events: 1.) who killed the almond dude? 2.) who made the spooky footprints leading to Jerry?
until these questions are answered I have to conclude that the Sphere is indeed a film weak in parts
Almond dude and the footprints remain a mystery, it's true. The footprints were the biggest weak spot, in my opinion. Why just one set of prints in one direction. And if the footprints were in dust or frost, it seems that they would have been obscured before too long, which makes them much fresher than mummified almond dude.

Well not really, bearing in mind, "the back story" we hear, is essentially speculative on the parts of the characters, as nothing is ever really proven.
The "almond dude" was murdered by another member of his ship who may have left the building, so to speak. I think it's possible that the footprints lay there undisturbed fossil-like, but I agree that it's a weak spot, just designed to reinforce the case that the space-craft is of human, rather than of alien origin.

Yeahh I can KINDA see the footprints. Dust happens because of contaminants in the air settling. In a sealed off vessel 300 years old thhat stopped 'breathing' and became stagnant 300 years ago, there's a maximum of airborne contaminants. Once they all settle out, there's nothing left. Like how in egyptian tombs, the layers of dust weren't three feet thick.
