You have a what?

High voltage defense system on an underwater habitat that will cause a fire if you use it?

Why not just have seat belts in cars that detach when an accident happens? Unbearable.

To get technical, Barnes only said it could cause a fire. Remember, at first everything was fine.

However, given the fact that Beth feared there would be a fire, it had to happen. The way in which the metal framing caught and spread so quickly without an accelerant along with the sudden 'ceasefire' leads us to believe this was her manifestation.

At the time the fire happened she hadn't yet been inside the sphere. I'd guess it was her fear that caused Hoffmans character to manifest the fire, which would also explain why the fire stops as she goes upstairs and he passes out.
