Could the universe be really like this?

parallel lives intersecting in different places or imitating events with different outcomes without people noticing it?

the message of the movie for me was clear: you will never know if your life is truly blessed or miserable until the very end (that and that life tends to give people "surprises" balancing the good with the bad everywhere, all the time)

research quantum mechanics, quantum immortality, and the multiple universe theory.
its all very interesting, and in my mind, a very real possibility.

I hope so.

I really do.

Well if you think the universe is infinite and parallel universes and all that jazz then you have to say somewhere something like this is happening no?

If you don't believe in Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig.

reply

I kind of doubt that there are "parallel universes" or whatever, but I think it's really thought-provoking, the idea that little events can change a life, or at least a day or something. I mean, not everything about this movie is believable, but the basic chain of events is plausible! ... guess you ought to think twice about running for that bus :P

You give me joy that's unspeakable, Jesus I am so in love with You

reply

Maybe.
They say there are different versions of our lives in the Timeless Present of the Absolute, and each of them exist frozen in eternity like a string of photo frames.
The only difference is that the "variation" you live depends on your choices and not on some random external factor, like a kid cutting you in.
These variations intersect at some point, then they fork again.

Absolutely. For instance in a world I am married with Gwyneth Patrow, in another I am NBA player and in a third reality I am homeless windshield cleaner. The splitting moment for me was a Starbucks order which went wrong.

Actually, long term, our lives end up being the same (provided we are not self-destructive). It is only those little details that sometimes change the course of things beyond what is "normal" or how our lives were meant to be that can change that, but when they do, results are pretty much immediate. By this I mean - everything will be OK, and the way it was meant to, provided one does not get killed in a freak accident by not listening to that inner voice and exposing themselves to unnecessary danger.
But provided she survived that train ride that she caught in the last moment, her life would have been largely the same (not like what was shown in the movie).

Still, the film works because it brings up an interesting point and does so with tons of charm and great performances all around.

I do wonder. Honestly I once had a vision of my now husband much earlier in life, exactly what he looked like and everything. The weird thing is so many things needed to line up exactly right for us to meet, but I wonder if it would have been in some other way if that did not work.
