Thing that Bugs Me About Rock n' Roll Biopics...

The subject is hardly ever treated as a flawed individual. There are a few that have shown this but not many. I just watched this and 'Whats Love Got to do With It' back to back and you would've sworn Selena and Tina Turner were faultless/flawless earthbound angels or something.

In Oliver Stone's THe Doors Jim Morrison was treated pretty harshly

Oh my yes. I finally watched that whole film last week. I now see why members of The Doors were so displeased with the film. It was actually quite disgraceful, especially when fact-checking much of the real story.

Regarding "Selena," I don't think the movie whitewashed the real Selena. Some biopics do this, yes, but there were no scandals the movie omitted, as far as I know. She didn't have experiences like Tina or like Whitney, so I figure that's why the tone of the movie was positive; Selena's life was. The film did show conflict too, such as the struggle to make it as a Latin-American female singer or her marrying when her father didn't approve. Perhaps these topics were resolved quickly in the film, but I definitely do not think this film had some agenda to make her "Miss Perfect" and everything was all sunshine and roses until she was killed. For the trickiness of making this film so soon after Selena's death, I thought they did quite well.

That movie was a horrible representation of The Doors--especially of Jim Morrison. The rest of the guys have all come out and said that the movie was a harsh misrepresentation. I can't stand to watch it.

I see your point but I don't think Selena was portrayed that way at all. In fact I think they portrayed her as a very regular girl.

I think Selena was portrayed as ordinary and very likeable, but also with genuine affection and respect. And that's something that can be amiss in the more bleak and cynical biopics. But Selena didn't have as long or a turbulent life as Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash or even Jim Morrison. Whilst some consideration for her family was essential for this movie to be made so soon after her death. But I think it's one of the best films of its kind in the past twenty five years and I'm glad it was made, and made just the way it is.
