Why would you go meet someone like that alone?!

I get that she knew her (or thought she did!) & that Selena was a trusting person...but seriously.
This woman had scammed her and her family & fans, denied it, and seemed obsessed with her!
I'd NEVER have gone to meet her alone in an isolated place.

I think that while Selena knew Yolanda was capable of stealing from her, she didn't think she was capable of killing anyone, much less her. Just my two cents.

Yeah, I read somewhere that although Selena's family discovered Yolanda was embezzling from the fan club, they didn't think she seemed capable of something as violent and heinous as homicide.

I think the thing that didn't come across too well in the movie was how close of a family friend Yolanda was to the Quintanilla family. Selena's family had very few close family friends other then the people they worked with majority of the time. Selena had always been very sheltered. Working with her family meant spending the majority of her time with them but didn't really allow her too many outside friends and Selena was the type of person to always be working. Yolanda was one of those few outside family friends. She was close to the entire family, she was even apart of Suzette's wedding.

Like a previous poster said I don't think Selena thought someone she had been so close to for years capable of killing her, who would? Selena even had a difficult time believing Yolanda had embezzled money from her, she continually denied it many times until she was shown otherwise.

As far as Yolanda's obsession, I don't believe Selena saw herself any different than any other person so I don't think her mindset of who she was allowed her to believe anyone was obsessed with her. Martin Gomez (The designer she worked with at Selena Etc.) and many of the employees at her boutique have stated that they warned her and her family about Yolanda being rude to the staff, and being a strange woman and they all brushed it off. Selena even defended Yolanda multiple times as being misunderstood. It was hard for Selena to see the bad in people. Heck, the fact that her family says to this day that they don't hate Yolanda they hate what she did should tell you about the type of people they are and the type of person they raised Selena to be. Selena loved people, I don't think she could bring herself to believe so much evil could be in a person, especially someone she had loved.

That's strange because Abraham just did Radio interview, explaining that Yolanda and Selena were not really friends. There were sources saying that Yolanda used to travel with them all the time, but Abraham said that wasn't true. So, becuase Selena probably did not know her that well, I would assume this was the reason Selena didn't think she would ever go that far to kill Selena.

I believe since YS is such a manipulating conman, she was able to put on a false face that she showed to Selena and her family, but was her true self at other times.

That's why the other employees would tell Selena how badly YS had been behaving, but it was hard for Selena to believe because she had never seen that side of YS. I think I remember reading that whenever an employee would complain about her to Selena, YS had an excuse ready, claiming that person was actually the problem employee and things like that.

Since YS was managing the boutiques, she was the one who regularly reported to Selena, which would give her more access to information Selena received and more ability to manipulate that information to her own benefit. The regular staff members wouldn't be seeing Selena or frequently talking to her on the phone like YS did during performing her job duties, so Selena probably didn't have as close of a working relationship with them. That would make YS lies more believable, imo.

From the wikipedia entry of the murder, Yolanda wanted to give her the accounting papers directly.

Their personal connection was close enough for the meeting to happen; Selena even drove her to the hospital after a trumped up story about being raped in Mexico. Compassionate and trusting even of those who wronged her.

Yolanda was a lifelong criminal; she stole from a previous employer too and had no good intentions pursuing the fan club job.

I really wish to God that Selena's family would have gotten a relative or a well trusted friend to handle the fan club affair, instead of getting some random stranger they don't know very well.

That complete stranger Yolanda started the fan club. She asked Abraham if she could start a fan club for Selena, after being turned down by other singers. Abraham wishes the fan club affair never happened.

I think deep in her heart, she still wanted to believe that Yolanda was a good person, she was clearly naive. Similar to wanting to believe that a cheating ex can still be faithful. It wasn't until she pulled out the gun that she realized Yolanda was crazy.
