How true was this where Abraham and his group had issues with the Mexican audience not being able to play Mexican music and start throwing things at then?

Probably as true as the dress thing. It's just movie shorthand to quickly give the audience background to the times or whatever.
There is a man...he travels fast...he has purpose...he brings violence and destruction.
Actually I think that particular incident may have in fact happened in real life. I saw an interview with Abraham Quintanilla in a documentary on Selena where he said his own band in the 60s were not accepted by Anglos because they were Mexicans, and that they were also not accepted by The Mexican community because they were playing English-language songs instead of traditional Mexican music.

Abraham went through some things...some really STUPID things.
