Yolanda portrayed in film

I'm only new to even knowing Selena, I'm not from America so actually my first introduction to her was an article about MAC releasing a line with her name on it! So forgive me if this is an obvious question or comment.

When watching the film, and in particular when she was killed, I found it confusing that they hadn't explained how close Yolanda was to Selena and her family. She was only mentioned very briefly when the fraudulent cheques were mentioned. Was this deliberate? I understand for Selena fans that as soon as Yolanda's name was mentioned in the film you all know who she was and what was about to happen but I felt that the film could have gone into the connection a bit more.

Was it ever brought up that she wasn't featured much in the film?

I think there's two reasons for that. One I doubt the production or Selena's family would have wanted to pay Saldivar money for rights to her story.

What story about that was used was a matter of public knowledge at the time, and criminal matter.

But also the film is about 19-20 years old now, so it would be a bit dated. So anyone watching the film 1997/1998 it would've fairly common knowledge then so there wasn't much need to explain in detail.

You should watch the film again. Yolanda was shown several times before that, and it was made clear that she was Selena's confidante and business associate in several scenes.
