I always wondered why they teased her?
I mean she was pretty,
not overweight or too skinny,
not awkward looking,
nice,
etc.
Plus it's not like she was famous yet, she only sang at restaurants once in a while, so there's nothing really to be jealous off.

Kids will tease you regardless how you look. I been there. But going back to your question, I think it was cuz she was a new student plus she didn't speak spanish like the rest of the kids did. That's my opinion. Hope that helps
