I still don't understand why they choose J,Lo for the film.
And to all you idiots she looks nothing like Selena.
shareAnd to all you idiots she looks nothing like Selena.
shareI think Lopez did a commendable, though not outstanding, job in the role of Selena. She was able to carry it off even though she certainly could not capture Selena's truly unique essence.
And J.Lo with her own actual musical career has proven to be little more than a glorified back-up dancer. Selena, on the other hand, was a one of a kind performer who was able to exude something so rare and inspiring that it's difficult to put into words honestly. She just had this unbelievable radiance as an artist/performer that truly only comes around once in a short while. Very few musical artists have the sort of presence that's practically regal in nature. Selena was definitely one of those very few people and it's also one of the main reasons why her death was so painfully tragic and hard to deal with for so many of her fans around the world.
According to a Radio interview Abraham did (Youtube), He said the original actress HE picked was from California (if I remembered correctly). He said SHE was the one that looked incredibly like Selena, even had the body, face, and everything. But when it came time for testing her performance, she kept messing up. So, finally, they gave up.
shareI saw an interview with Selena's father where he said that he wanted to give everyone a chance at portraying her. I think it was naive on his part to consider that possibility. Maybe it was because Selena was really accessible to her fans. The role required someone who knew what she was doing, not a deer-in-headlight girl who resembled the singer. I'm inclined to believe that the director indulged, until Jennifer Lopez's turn to audition came. The movie is very meta in the way that Jennifer's career mirrors that of Selena: Both ____Americans already known, but trying to break into the mainstream English speaking side of entertainment, and also known for the physical attributes.
I think that Jon Seda looks more like Chris, than Jennifer does like Selena, but she gave a believable performance nonetheless. One minor complaint from me is that Jennifer skin tone is lighter than Selena's. Had their skin tones matched, it would have been perfect.

You'll never walk alone
Angela Bassett looked NOTHING like Tina Turner, but she was such a good actress, you almost forget that throughout the movie. JLo, not so much...
I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.
Does not look exactly like Selena but she looked the part enough and gave a great performance,Salma Hayak was up for the role even though she is an overall better actress than JLO I could not see her as Selena, the directors made the right choice
I'm gonna show you something beautiful everyone screaming for mercy

Then I guess her entire family is idiotic, eh?
shareThey need a dramatic latin actress to play Selena, so JLo was that choice.
