Who else cried when....

Randy Meeks died?

reply

Nope. However I did get teary, and still do, at the close. Sidney survived, again. But now she's all alone. I did like the silent agreement she shared with Cotton, tho.

reply

Never. If anything, I appreciated the movie more for the simple fact that it dared to go there. It certainly shocked the hell out of me.

reply

I did:(

You're a survivor arent you sidney?

reply

Honestly, I think his death is one of the sloppiest of the series. He was always the most intelligent characters, particularly concerning the themes and rules of horror films. His behavior in his death scene is simply out of character and that makes it more frustrating for me than anything else.

Obviously one of the original cast members had to die and I think it would've made more sense and been braver to have it be Dewey.

reply

Agree. Someone who knew their horror movies like Randy did would never stand with his back to a van like that.

I agree in theory, BUT the killer got him riled up enough to distract him (by reminding him that he'd never "get the girl").

I've watched this scene over and over again. It was shot so brilliantly: the view from the parapet, just before he was snatched, was the key. The edge of the parapet (mostly) blocked the van from our view, so it looked like there was more open space behind him than there really was. That was to fool US. But Randy was fooled by ghostface, who pissed him off enough to make Randy lose track of his surroundings, and it cost him his life... Damn, what a great scene.

I wasn't upset enough to cry, but I was sad for a long time because he was such a great character.

I think it might be in the trivia section for Scream 1's IMDB page, but originally Dewey died in the first movie. Test audiences didn't react well to him dying because of how likable he was and stuff or because of how smart of a cop he was unlike most cops in horror movies, so they changed it. But he was sort of killed off already. They probably didn't want to do that again, although I think the same thing happened with Scream 2. Maybe Dewey was meant to die in that scene, but they changed it again after feedback from test audiences. Or they were just simply trying to fool the audience into thinking he was dead. But because of changing Dewey's fate in the first movie, that's probably why they picked Randy to die in 2 instead of Dewey.

i didnt care at all. one of my only complaints about the first film is that way too many people survived. they should have killed off randy and dewey the first time

I didn't cry but I was very upset he died. He's one of my favorites in the Scream movies.

reply

NOT me. I never liked this character. Sorry

reply

It was sad, I loved Randy, his speech before he was killed was epic, dissing Stu and Billy, calling Billy a rat looking homo repressed momma's boy, lol, and he died referencing serial killers, what a great way for Randy to go out

reply

I did but I was in love with him lol well I sobbed and never watched.

reply

It was sad, but I guess one of the original survivors had to die.

I was more shocked, like ‘oh shit they actually iced Randy??’ than sad, and crying was off the table 🤷🏻‍♂️ These slashers don’t provoke sadness in me, they’re all about tension and shock horror (with a good dose of clever self-aware comedy)
