Could There Have Been LESS Chemistry?

This movie had some laughs (Jack was funny but just because he was always insulting everyone), Greg Kinnear was awesome, Cuba Gooding was annoying and over acting, Helen Hunt was incredibly bland) but the worst part was that there was not one stitch of chemistry between Helen Hunt's character and Jack Nicholson's character or even one scene which would lead you to believe she liked him in any sort of romantic way and then at the end, out of the blue, she calls him her 'boyfriend'?

Terrible.

Apparently you prefer a fairy-tale romance to realty. That is not the fault of the writer, director, or actors. Perhaps when you grow up, you'll realize that fairy-tales happen in books and bed-time stories; not real life.

Watta ya lookn here for?

Fantastic chemistry. Noticeable when he goes to her house after getting kicked out of the restaurant.

One of the creepiest decisions a human being has ever made..and there she is, being mad and having a conversation with him. Were he looking for sex, it'd be MUCH less strange. He was there for her to serve him food? LOL. And she allows him to criticize her for getting personal?

Only a soulmate can look that far past sensibility.

I agree with most of the posters here that:

1) Helen Hunt was a miscast. Someone else noted she is always a miscast. I agree. "Twister" comes to mind immediately.

2) There was little to no chemistry because a) Helen Hunt was a miscast; b)Nicholson is 26 years her senior; c)Melvin is a germophobe and yet he wants to put his mouth on hers, not once but twice. Incredible.

3) Helen Hunt is not attractive. She is abrasive and nasty and so Melvin's compliments somehow ring hollow and untrue.

4) Helen Hunt's character is loony about her kid and somehow misses the point of what a Health Maintenance Organization is all about - maintaining health so you don't have to run to emergency rooms for routine health maintenance.

Well, that's the idea, but throw a rock and there's a good chance you'll hit someone who has had (or personally knows someone who has had) a negative experience with an HMO.

She won an Oscar for the role you ignorant imbecile. She was PERFECTLY cast and did a fantastic job; one of the truly great screen performances. Thank goodness morons like you aren't casting directors and no one cares about your idiotic opinion...

I think you need to make an appointment with Melvin's shrink. What an overtly juvenile comment that was. Obviously, you care or you wouldn't have bothered to post your best inner thoughts.

Wow ... it took you 8 months to come up with a response which does nothing to refute the simple proof I provided to debunk your idiotic assertion. Explaining why your idiotic assertion proves you to be an ignorant imbecile doesn't mean I care champ, or that I need to see a shrink. It just means that you're an ignorant imbecile; nothing more and nothing less. Sorry to burst yet another one of your little bubbles kiddo; I'm afraid there's still no one who cares about your opinion...

Um. Maybe you forgot you posted 10 months after mine. Since I do not check quotes from months ago, every day, it is reasonable for a delayed response to occur. I wouldn't think I'd have to explain something so simple, but there it is.

As for the rest of your ad hominem (which you refer to as "proof"!) opinion is opinion. I am not required by anyone, especially the likes of you, to explain why I feel the way I feel about a character or an actor. Apparently, my opinion pricked one of your bubbles, hence your insult laden rant. Do you exhibit road rage when someone cuts in front of you on the freeway, too?

And yes, you do care, because you posted yet another juvenile response. Go and learn some manners...please.

What part of "her kid had major problems with allergies, asthma and related maladies which clearly would not have been averted by "health maintenance" or regular check-ups" do you not understand?

is there someone that could have a good chemistry with Jack Nicholson? seriously he's no romance material, not even a weird kind of romance.

Some of you latent gays seem to love attacking every actress in every movie there ever has been.

Helen Hunt was great in this movie.
