Does anybody know which council estate the film was set in?

Cheers.

reply

Quite a lot of it was shot on The Ferrier Estate,Kidbrooke,London SE3.
I know,'cos I live there.......(sob..!)
Excellent film by the way.

Thought so, I used to live in Plumstead which is nearby.
Did you live there at the time it was being filmed, did you see any of the filming?

Yeah, I agree a really great film.

reply

quite alot stuff was shot in deptford, lewisham and catford

reply

In answer to your question yumpopgirl,no I didn't live there at the time of filming...and thankfully have since moved off and now live in sunny Bexleyheath.

reply

I'm a Bexleyheath boy too. Or was.

So was it The Ferrier Estate,Kidbrooke or the Pepys estate,Deptford?

Which estate was the maisonette that Raymond and Val lived in on?

Yumpopgirl.

reply

i think it was shot on both yumpopgirl

reply

I think Gary Oldman was brought up around Deptford and wanted it shot around his old stomping ground.

reply

Yeah I couldnt believe it when i saw the Ferrier estate, Glad they are knocking that monster down.

reply

Yup,

It's 100% the Ferrier Estate in Kidbrooke - at least that's the estate where the junkie lad with his bitten nose is trying to ponce some cash from the guy with his kid in the playground.

reply

I didn't really know exactly where scenes were filmed, but when you see the shot of flats in the distance it is definitely Kidbrooke.

reply

Yeah it's definitely the Ferrier, I used to live very close to it and recognised the tall chimney. I now live in Welling which is just up the road from Bexleyheath...much better here init?

reply

Hopefully tthe Ferrier's being pulled down soon (so I hear) - I was born and raised in Bexleyheath. Moving back there soon - pretty good area really compared to New Cross, Kidbrooke etc - looking forward to it. Hopefully I'm not still banned from the Camden....!

Weekender, whatever you do, just make sure what your doing makes yer happy..

reply

Its set in old kent road 'cos the film is based on laila morse's real life and that's where he daughter lived!!!!

reply

I just read the Gary Oldman interview in Empire where he says that most of the film is fictional. Who is Laila Morse - sounds interesting.

reply

Laila Morse is his sister the one who plays kathy burke's mum, she's pals with my dad she used to work in a cab office, i think it was downtown cars in rotherhithe, she told my dad that the husband ain't with her daughter no more and they don't know where he is and he son is a druggy which is public knowledge anyway.

reply

Wow, thanks for that, that all adds up doesn't it. I guess when he says it's mostly fiction he's really just keeping family business private - who can blame him. This films far to real for fiction.

Cheers

I also recognised
Brockley Cross - Locked in the launderette scene

Lewisham/Catford...Courthill Road, Lewisham High St, George Lane - Tailing the car to the hospital scene

Elephant & Castle tube station.

Apparently Liala Morse still lives in New Cross as a council tenant.

reply

How is that possible - why would anyone, let alone someone who is probably earning quite a lot of money being a main player in Eastenders, live in a council estate - especially THAT council estate - by choice?

Besides - wouldn't eh council click on that she probably shouldn't be even in the running for council housing - being that she earns a fortune?

reply

I didn't say she lived on a council estate, but she is a council tenant who lives in a house owned by the council, in a conservation area of New Cross.
Yes, New Cross has listed buildings too, and does have nice parts, including Telegraph Hill where I used to live.

As long as you pay your rent and do not claim Housing benefit etc, then you have the right to live in the property.
She obviously has been living in the property for a number of years, probably was born there!
