Best British film ever made you *beep* It was also filmed in 1995, now making it twelve years old and yet it could have been shot yesterday. Abslutley nothing has changed in Britain and London since that time, except more use of mobile phones.

reply

Nah, it's not the best british film ever made. Far from it. Even Tim Roth's kinf od similar The War Zone is better than this one. But don't get me wrong, Nil by Mouth is an excellent, must-see film. No doubt about that.

reply

I do prefer The War Zone. Possible one of the most haunting British films I have ever seen, but Nil By Mouth is still brilliant. I was a bit concerned with some of the dialogue being a bit stiff and obvious but it didn't effect the sheer power the film had over me.

reply

I prefer Nil By Mouth to The War Zone. But it's also great.

BEST FILM, BEST PICTURE, BEST OF ENGLAND CINEMA, BEST OF GARY OLDMAN by Dane Youssef

A powerhouse 10+. One of the most riveting films of 1997. Deserved an Oscar for best foreign film. Recieved two British Oscars, what do they call 'em? BAFTA's, I believe.

It's a film everyone should see--not for entertainment film, for illumination on the human condition.

See this for my elaboration on this hallmark in cinema history:

I'm in total agreement with abyoussef. It's a brilliant movie. I remember an interview with Gary where he said he wanted to make a realistic film about addiction, and he absolutely succeeded. I hope he hasn't given up on directing.
