Who represents Oldman
It's loosely based on Oldman's life and I'm assuming that Billy is supposidly Oldman. Or is he just not represented and more that his family is more of the focus?

shareI would say that Ray & Valerie's little daughter represents Oldman. She witnesses the her family's destructiveness and she is present when Ray beats Valerie to a pulp. That scence to me sells me on the idea that Gary Oldman is represented by the little girl.
I remember seeing this film at the cinema on its release, and it was just at the time when Tony Blair had just stepped in to office in the UK. Empire magazine's review was dead on as labelling it a "handgrenade at Blairs Britain" & "to approach with extreme caution".
i have since watched this film over & over again & it is one of my favourites, and not because of all the violence, its beacuase, at the end of the day, it about family with its daily struggles in life. the way Oldman executed this movie made all the more brutal with its documentary style approach. Powerful cinema at its finest. I would even go as far to say that Alan Clarke was Oldman's inspiration for the visual aesthetic.
Yeah spot on, I'd say it's the daughter too, if anyone.
Great film.
