A short but quite beatiful scene...

I have to say that the scene in which michelle releases the balloon with her name scrawled on it is one of the most moving i've ever seen. The symbolism of the whole scene is pretty powerful, but i think it just sums up whats lieing behind the narrative the whole time. An almost staggering breath of fresh air from the brutal truth of the rest of the film. Genius.

I agree, Gave me the sense of freedom from their harsh reality

And then it cross fades into Ray Winstone kicking a door screaming "C-NT!! C-NT!!"

Brilliant.

Second chances are rare man, you shoud learn to take better advantage of em'

You just know that Michelle will grow up with the same problems as he Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother etc etc. She wouldn´t know any different.

If it harms none, do what thou wilt.

Hopefully Michelle, who probably represents Oldman himself escapes like the balloon does. Also shot against a very heavilly grafitied wall, highlighting the grimness of the estate, it like the drinking and drug taking for the adults is a brief moment of escape in a vile world.
