one of the most underrated and unknown films in the last 20 years. a harrowing, devastating, brilliant work by oldman and company. ray winstone is beyond incredible.

I agree, it's a brilliant film and unfortunately, all too believable. I respect that they didn't shy away from the violence.. But at the same time we get to see that Ray isn't a complete freak of nature, he too is the product of an abusive upbringing.. We get to see his remorse and as with so many of these men, we get to see the desperation and remorse once he (at least partly) realises what he's done..

Well not exactly as it was generally critically acclaimed upon its release. However its commercial appeal is clearly limited, quite likely the reason it may not be all that well known.🐭
