The title?

I am sorry if this has been asked before, I just haven't got the time right now to browse through all the pages here, but can someone please explain to me what Nil by Mouth means?

Thanks in advance.

It's a medical term, meaning a patient may not be given any substance orally.

Ray said he went to visit his dad in hospital and it was written on a sign above his dad's bed. It simply means nothing to be given orally. Typically peg feeds are nil by mouth and have everything go through a tube into the stomach. But it could have been a number of reasons why his dad was nil by mouth.
He goes on to say his mum explained what it was and he says he's (metephorically) always been nil by mouth, he's never expressed him any affection.
