i get it, but i still didn't like it
okay i understand some people like gritty realism. i get that. and hey that's okay
but IMO every movie should have some kind of story, dream, goal or whatever the character(s) are aiming at, and not just that but it should be something that is clearly understood by the viewers, even ones who skim in passing.
in other words there should never NOT be a goal, and also one shouldn't have to DIG to figure out what the goal is, eevah.
allow me to offer you a comparative illustration.
sexy beast is a fine cockney gritty earthy movie but it has a goal for the main character (also winstone)
this movie here is just saucy earthiness without the goal needed to pull the viewer's interest in.
okay look i know you guys are gonna jump in here and tell me i'm stupid and i don't know nuffen etc etc
whatever
realistic though it may be, and great as the performances are, the damn story is BORING.
just saying.
