The perfect ending....

Would have been both women realizing that they deserve better. When i first watched it, i was rooting for Julianne, simply because there was so much chemistry with her and Michael. But i also do not agree with cheating ever, so in the end i was glad she was alone, and this was her chance to find herself, and be happy alone before being with someone else.

But despite being happy that Julianne is alone, i still wasnt fully happy with the ending, I dont truly think Michael loves Kimmy, the whole movie hints at the feelings Julianne and michael still have for each other.

Kimmy had to do all the sacrificing, gives up school, and has to do what HE wants with their lives. They never discuss things, she just cries, and he does what he wants.

So, anyway, now that i am older, i feel like the perfect ending would have been everyone ending up along. Because this whole situation was dysfunctional from all ends...

Perhaps more realistic, but I do like the way it ended. Some would have preferred the best friends getting back together, but there would have been no character growth from that type of typical "Hollywood" happy ending.

I think that the ending they offered was a compromise between the more realistic one you offer and the over-the-top "Hollywood ending" that would have them get back together: perhaps with the gay Brit going straight and ending up with Cameron Diaz (actually, that would still be pretty funny and entertaining, if totally unrealistic) - they could then have a dual wedding at the end ala "Guys and Dolls".

Maybe it's just too depressing, and misses the mark as a fun date-night romantic comedy, if no one gets married, finds true love, and experiences affirmed friendship in the end.
