Loved this movie EXCEPT......

This is such a sweet, funny and sad story about a woman who only upon learning that her best bud who she kinda sorta had feelings for but never took her chance at having a relationship with him is now getting married to someone else. Time is up. She only has this one last window where she could try to lure him away from her. Julia is hilarious as the desperate mentally unglued person who will do anything to sabotage their relationship so she could reclaim him. She runs around like a lunatic and you cannot help but feel sorry for her. Everyone knows the pain of a missed opportunity.

That said; have seen this a few times and each time something bugged the hell out of me. Michael asks Julianne to be there for him at his wedding or he would not be able to go through with it. So she goes although her intentions are not exactly honorable. That said neither were his! He flirted with her from the beginning, walked in on her when she was undressed, commented on how great she looked with her clothes off, danced with her on the boat and sang to her, admitted that he was insanely jealous he was when he thought she was actually engaged to George. While she was devious and plotting he was imo extremely disrespectful to his fiance by spending all of this time with her right before his wedding knowing that his fiance already felt uneasy about this. When Julianne finally comes clean to Michael he makes it seem as though she was the ONLY one who had these feelings and he was completely innocent and did nothing at all to give her any indication that he still had feelings for her. This in my opinion was disgusting of him. She was not hallucinating. He WAS flirting with her plain and simple.

One more comment; the fact that they picked up Julianne at the airport and Kimmy right away imposes on Julianne to be her maid of honor and stand in for her "best friend" and says "I've never had a sister before". No matter how despicable Julianne's behavior was Kimmy almost just as manipulative. She wanted to keep her enemy close.

Other than that I really enjoyed the movie.

Generally even the best of rom-coms are full of contrivances in the plot. They are just about fundamental to the genre. This film is no exception. Michael & Jules's relationship. Kimmy wanting Jules, who she's known for 5 minutes as maid of honour.

Kimmy almost just as manipulative. She wanted to keep her enemy close.
Well Jules says this of Kimmy when they have their showdown in the ladies' room.🐭

I agree with you. These things added up until it stood out like a sore thumb that he was acting much too flirtatious with her as well as spending too much time with her. I think, much like the first responder, that these things were necessary to move the plot along. It also helped keep the audience thinking that maybe he still loved her and that she would get him in the end, making it more of a surprise when she doesn't. If he just treated her casually and then hardly saw her, it wouldn't be much of a movie.

Kimmy asking Jules to be her maid of honor *because her best friend couldn't make it* has always bugged me. They portray Kimmy as being so loveable and popular - how is that she would only have invited one friend to be in her wedding (in addition to the cousins)? Big plot hole for me. I love the movie, but that has always bothered me.

Oh, and the fact that George has to ask her who Michael is at the beginning. Obviously a means of *explaining* to us, but it seems odd that George wouldn't know everything about Michael.
