Something I've never liked....

So I know this is silly, but it's always bothered me that Michael and Kimmie run off to their honeymoon.... in the middle of their reception. And the guests are still there, eating cake and dancing, which is basically the funnest part of a wedding! At my wedding we stayed until the very ending, it was way too much fun to leave early. Plus, it insinuates that they're leaving for their honeymoon *that night* (same with in Father of the Bride). I'm sorry but I was exhausted after my wedding. Way too tired to travel. They always show the ending of weddings like that. And, the bride is almost always wearing a skirt suit.

We left ours early, as we had a plane to catch...everyone had a great time after we left...it was an open bar..

I've been to weddings where the bride and groom left early. It was no big deal, really their business. Beside, maybe San Antonio swept Sacramento :)

Get me a bromide! And put some gin in it!

I've seen it both ways.

Me personally I was there until the end, then went home that night, SLEPT (seriously way too tired for the "wedding night") hard, and packed the next day on was gone Monday morning on my honeymoon! :)

Its a traditional thing to do

This is just how TV weddings always are. It's not glamorous to see the lights come back up, to see the wait staff starting to clean up, and to see the bride and groom pick up all their belongings (any candles, pictures, etc used at the reception that they provided). But in reality, almost nobody's wedding happens like this in real life as they do on TV.

Because of what I'd seen in movies, I wanted to make a grand exit at my wedding, not leave super early but I wanted to leave while there were enough people still there....ha, we ended up closing the place. We were having too much fun to leave early, and I think it's ridiculous to fathom leaving right from the reception for the honyemoon. We had way too much packing to still do, not to mention we were exhausted.

That always happens in the movies! Sometimes, the couple rushes out of the church and drives away, and I am left wondering, is there no reception, or are the guests going to the reception with no bride or groom?

It is for show in the movies. In real life, the couple is still at the reception hall when I have left, even when things have really wound down.

And these days, couples usually go to a hotel or home for the wedding night, and leave for the honeymoon the next day, or even later.

I also thought about this. They left very early.

We did stay at our reception until the very last person left. While we had a plane to catch, it was a very late flight, and we had ample time.

The funny part is that it was raining "cats and dogs", and we had to locate our Maid of Honor to get our Marriage License to verify with the Airline my new wife's new name. It shouldn't have mattered, as we bought our tickets with her Maiden Name as I recall, but somehow we had to prove that we had just married and were frantically driving in a rainstorm to get the document and make the flight.

That was pre-9/11, now the TSA might not let it go...

Its traditional and I like that. I always thought there was something very romantic about leaving before everyone else. After all the day is about you two and I always hear people say they were too tired at the end of their wedding to even enjoy the night with their spouse.
