' .. he has you on a pedestal ,, and me in his arms '

What the hell was that elevator scene, and what did that phrase mean, when she said "YOU WON. he has you on a pedestal and me in his arms" ? Can someone explain?
I never got that...

I took it as, Michael would always idealise and idolise Jules for being his first real love. But Kimmy was his last; the one he would actually be with from that point on.

"Oh, Britta's in this?"

reply

Absolutly!! Jules will always be the one he could never get the "inaccessible" one. Whereas Kimmy was the real love, she's the one reday to start a life and settle down.

I agree with the other posters. Kimmy meant that Jules was Michael's "perfect" girl, the standard by which he judged women he got into relationships with. But he could never have her, so she was on a pedestal. She has his heart until Kimmy, she knows him better than Kimmy. And, Kimmy's saying that although Jules is all of that to Michael, Kimmy is still the one is his arms, the one he's going to marry and spend the rest of his life with.

I've seen this movie a million times. I'm watching it right now. I've no idea what happens in that elevator scene.

lol...
I never paid the words much mind, I just understood that Kimmy knew that she was winning by marrying Michael.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

Kimmy had talked about being insecure because she could never live up to the person that Michael talked Jules up to be but then she decided that Jules won in that Michael will never see Kimmy on that pedestal. However, Kimmy realized that she could be happy by just being in his arms and that she didn't need to be put up so high as to be inaccessible to Michael.

I agree with all the comments above but the "you won" comment never made sense. It was like an unfinished conversation. Jules runs out of the elevator, crashing and making a scene. Kim never finishes what she's saying. Maybe they cut too much in the edit.

I hate that whole 'you on a pedestal, me in his arms' line. It's so cringeworthy.

Also to add to what the others said...by saying she won, Kimmy was basically saying she has accepted it. Like rather than being jealous or dislike Julianne (which she kind of did anyway as we see in the ball field bathroom scene), she's accepted that Julianne will always be his first love, but she will be the one he comes home to each night, who he's married to and loves.
