Burtonesque?
The setting reminded me of a Tim Burton film. It was dark and odd, and in some parts goofy.

shareThis movie is VERY Burtonesque. Even Alan Silvestri's score sounds strongly like Danny Elfman's scores for Burton films.
All of which I mean as a compliment. I liked the Burton-style darkness and weirdness of "Mouse Hunt."
