Laurel + Hardy
I saw this film for the first time the other day, and I quickly saw that Lars and Ernie were often aping Laurel and Hardy, respectively, in their mannerisms, slapstick humour, etc. The biggest give away was the way Ernie played with his tie (a la Hardy) when he first notices the European girls when waiting under the clock tower. This isn't necessarily a criticism. Generally Lee Evans (of whom I'm a fan of) often evokes a Norman Wisdom-style of humour when he acts (he's extremely funny on stage too).
