The good and the bad

THis movie was a pretty good movie overall and here are what I think the good and the bad things are.

Good.

1: the Final fight of the film was really kick ass.
2: you actually get to see Scorpion and Sub-Zero fight you know not like the first one where they get killed both at different times.
3: Jax was possibly the strongest fighter well without the arms.
4: Shao Khan getting ripped inside out by a dragon.

The bad.

1: Shao Khan and Raiden brothers someone shoot me plz.
2: Raiden is a wuss who becomes mortal then looks like how he acts.
3: Raiden dies.
4: Raiden magically comes back to life while they let Johnny stay dead.
5: Kano is dead.
6: Reptile is dead.
7: Sonya is the one who has the most fights of the film.
8: Sonya in this film is definitely not as good as the first one.
9: Nightwolf a big character has 5 minutes or less of screen time.
10: the velosphere's scene.
11: Sektor does not appear but instead Smoke has all his moves.
12: the movie was too short.
13: too many fights infact the entire movie was just a really long fight with 2
minute breaks between fights.
14: Shao Khan is too short.
15: Kabal and Stryker are beaten, not killed, and not on screen.
16: Rain gets killed for not killing Kabal and Stryker.
17: Noob Saibot is just like one of those characters that no one cares about hell he isn't even killed on screen.
18: Mileena is killed by Sonya and her only line is "you wish".
19: WHERE THE HELL IS KUNG LAO!?!?!?!?!?!
20: Sheeva is a shokan shouldn't she be fighting like one instead of dying like a bug.
21: Motaro don't even get me started with him this guy who is impossible to beat without at least losing like 10 times is killed by a couple punches and a roundhouse kick.
22: Shinnok shouldn't be mentioned in this movie let alone being Raiden's and Shao Khan's father.
23: if they have Shinnok in this movie then why not Fujin.
24: Jade the hot one infact the hottest woman on the set is eaten by a dragon.
25: Shao Khan only uses his hammer for 10 seconds and only wears his Famous helmet twice.
26: the cut out of Quan Chi's scene.
27: Baraka is just misused in this film.
28: Ermac gets his neck broken by Sonya by using her legs Oh HOW original!
29: Johnny has one line and dies within 5 minutes.
30: Scorpion and Sub-Zero's fight is too short and ends in a "draw".
31: All the good actors Linden Ashby, Chris Cassamassa, Bridgette Wilson have all been replaced by other ppl who can't capture our hearts as the original Johnny, Scorpion, and Sonya.
32: Again WHERE IS KUNGLAO ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?

ok so there are more bad things then good things about this movie well remember to leave a comment

You're the girl for me Brooke Davis & Its you Peyton, its always been you.

1. Kabal and Stryker were killed, by Rain, Shao Kahn killed Rain for not making them beg for their lives before destroying them.

2. There was no Quan Chi scene filmed, so there wasn't one to cut out.

3. You whine a lot.

Buddha! Zeus! God! Somebody help me! Satan, you owe me!

reply

wow, I just finished this movie, and im so tired, yet i have so many ideas for "the bad" :)

The Good:

Robin Shou and Talisa were back
New Sonya I actually liked better
Scorpion and Sub-Zero Fight (was ok, still a little sloppy)
The Mud! OMG The Mud Fight!
Liu's dream sequence
The Use of the Mortal Kombat theme in the beginning and end
hhhmm.. I enjoyed Liu and Kitana's love story
Sonya's rack

The Bad:

Rayden turned into a dork with short blonde hair (Infact, not once during both movies did they get the look of Radyen right)
Baraka looked SSSOOO fake
Sheeva... just... dies, plus she looked like crap
Dialogue totally sucks, everyone's character is just goofy to the max
Jax robot arms were fat and stupid (I knew this before I saw the movie that, there are some things you can get away with in a video game that you can't in a movie, big beefy robot arms are a good example and proof of this)
Rayden comes back to life, Johnny doesn't
Sub-Zero disappears after having only one scene
The guy with the horse body was a joke
Every fight scene (with what choreography was put into them, I'm sure) just seems kind of sloppy, there are too many instances where it goes into slow motion while someone is either in the air or delivering a move, this got annoying.

BTW they simply tried to fit way too many characters in this movie, this eventually dragged the film down so much that several characters were limited to one or two scenes. That's something the first one avoided, taking several characters out so the other main characters could shine better.

Overall: The film's writing process just seriously needed more work, thought and effort put into it, a little something we call trial and error, several re-writes would've been necessary. The film's script just wasn't ready, but also the director probably wasn't the right choice, but it's not just the director, it's what every one else working on the project puts into it, some pull through and do a good job, and some fail really.

Wrong.
Rain said that he let them live.

"2. There was no Quan Chi scene filmed, so there wasn't one to cut out."
-->
Yes there was.

"3. You whine a lot."
-->
He whines, but you are wrong.

I was under the impressions Rain says two of earths best warriors have already been taken Kabal and Stryker - and then comes to 'did you make them beg' bit

What an atrocious film

"What kind of beer do you like neighbor?"
"Heineken"
"Heineken?! *beep* that *beep*
[Blue Velvet]

reply

Actually, Rain says two of Earth's warriors have already been taken. Kahn asks if Rain made them beg for their lives, and Rain says, " But Master, I thought if I let them live-", and then gets cut off by Kahn. So supposively they were killed.

reply

Another wonderful thing about the film-

How in the beginning, half the characters are wearing completely different things then what they were wearing at the end of the first film. Apparently in the 5 second waiting stage between the films, Liu found a perfectly clean white shirt, Johnny bought a new pair of $500 glasses, and Sonya changed from her hot gladiator suit to her regular clothes.

reply

Rain let them live so they could be prisoners, maybe. But I'd highly doubt they'd live for long since Kahn wants to simply kill them. And he expresses that by killing rain demanding they take no prisoners.

reply

I thought that right after the Sonya-Mileena fight, when Jax beats up that huge monster, was really lame. The monster looked like crap, even for a 1997 movie. And it just shows Jax punching toward the camera.

Every single visual effect done in this movie, including computer generated effects, costumes, and makeup, were all horribly done.

None of the actors were any good.

I did think the deaths of Johnny Cage and Sheeva were pretty damn funny, though. Both died after coming out, acting like they were about to kick some ass, and were annihilated in about 2 seconds.

And did anyone else think that after Raiden cut his hair, he looked kind of like Janitor from 'Scrubs'?

baraka's mask looked like somethin' u buy at spencers/party city; that's how fake that was

Was it not pretty obvious that Mileena & Kitana were 2 different actresses....

If she was attacking me, I would not have assumed or mistaken her for Kitana.

The two women don't even look that much alike to be played as twins (considering their identical with M's mouth covered...)

Why couldn't they have put Soto in a pink costume?

Why does the "Good" section have anything listed under it? I don't remember any good in this movie.

Good:

-We finally got to see Talisa Soto in action.
-There were some pretty good fight scenes.

Bad:

-Bad script
-rushed plot
-Just bunched up a bunch of characters from future games and thats it

reply

Why couldn't Mileena be played by Soto? Because then Mileena would be the new MK1 Sonya. It would have looked like Wilson's fights. I doubt Soto could have done the stunt work that the Olympic medal winning lady did.

That they gave Kitana her fans for this one--if only for one scene--instantly made this better than the first one where Kitana just vogued for some reason.

Still both films suffer from mashing up the already pretty straightforward game story line.

But Sonya and Kitana were MUCH improved this time. Bridget is pretty but Sonya needs someone who is pretty AND physically capable. Hess rocked the house!

reply

actually bridget willson is like a 3rd degree black belt in more then 3different martial arts

reply

Why couldn't they have put Soto in a pink costume?
Because it still would have been Dana Hee fighting, like she did every time Soto's character fights.

reply

I was disappointed by the Mileena & Kitana thing too. Mileena only had one scene, so why not just use the same actress as Kitana? They don't look at all like identical twins! I was also annoyed that Mileena had only a small, one-line part. Considering all of the drama going on between Kitana and Sindel, they could have fit Mileena into the plot more.

reply

For future references:

Khan: "What is your report?"

Rain: "Two of Earth's best warriors have already been taken, Kabal and Stryker."

Khan: "Tell me... did you make them beg for their lives before you destroyed them?!"

Rain: "But Master, I thought if I let them live-"

Khan: "I have no use for excuses!" *hammers circle* "Rain... this will never happen again."

Rain: "It will never happen again-" *is hammered into fiery pit*

There's no two ways about it. Rain let them live for some unknown purpose, and Khan probably later executed them.

reply

Let's demand a remake of this movie, lol!

By the way, did the 3rd movie get canceled? I didn't see the thread in IMDB like before. O.o

reply

Wrong.
Rain said that he let them live.
The dialogue in that scene is vague enough to support both of our arguements, yet not definitive enough to prove either one of us right. I think Rain killed them, you think he didn't. The scene can really be taken either way...

Your "Good" points...:

1: No, it wasn't. it was cheesy, horrible, and involved friggin' CLAYMATION. That negates anything awesome that may have happened in the fight.

2: Okay, this one you make a pretty good point on. It was one of the only things I did like about the film.

3: No... Liu Kang is the strongest...

4: That death scene looked so bad that I died a little on the inside.

reply

Good

1. Great Techno Soundtrack- I just found this website that has the soundtrack and the whole soundtrack is excellent for a movie like DOA or upcoming Tekken, but not for Mortal Kombat. This was actually better and more energized than the first movie's soundtrack. Finally something good about the second movie.

2. Kitana in action- Honestly, that scene on Mortal Kombat 1 where she fights Liu Kang is weak compared to other movies now, but I think it was all her on that one instead of a stunt double on the second one. During that time, I think the first movie's Kitana fight was good. I was actually excited for a minute when she pulls out the fans.

3. Sonya-
1. Fatality- I actually like that scene since she was my first favorite Mortal Kombat character.
2. More action- She does do a lot in the second one than she does in the first one. Bridgette looks more like she focuses on defense to kill her opponents like Aikido. Sandra Hess, was the exact opposite as she made the first punch in most of her fight scenes. Well, Mileena actually hit her first on that scene.

Bad

1. The Monster- The Monster that Jax defeats after Mileena and Sonya fight was a really bad idea, and how weak that whole less than 15 second scene made my eyes burn(Not really).

2. Jade- There was two things that I didn't like involving Jade.
1. If you want the movie to be more like the game, than have the actors or actresses look like their characters. Doesn't Jade have African-American skin color and in fact, African-American features on MK: Deception? Jade isn't Asian in the game. I do like the actress playing her since she appeared in the movie. She made Jade look dominant and strong for how skinny the actress was.
2. Her death was one of the deaths that was not necessary, and based on her hard work that she did for that god-awful Shao Khan, she gets killed by some living sculpture after Shao Khan fails to kill the good guys, once again. If he wanted to kill them, do it himself.

3. Rain's Short Appearance- And speaking of "deaths", Rain's death was like that as well. Rain didn't even do anything but wave his arms around in the beginning, and said a few words before he gets hit my a hammer and burned.

4. Bad costuming on the "unhuman" characters- Baraka for example. He looked ridiculous.

5. Johnny Cage- This movie made the Johnny Cage fans feel disgusted of this movie. He did nothing in the second movie. After killing Goro and Scorpion in the first one, he ends up getting his neck snapped instantly by Shao Khan. Though he didn't kill Goro with his hands though. He just pushed Goro over a cliff.

6. Sheeva- She didn't do anything in this movie. I would have expected a fight scene or something.

7. Bad script- Some parts of the movie weren't necessary, but Jax did say some funny, but cheesy lines though.

8. Bad acting- I guess it was the script that made the acting bad.

9. Mileena- I do agree that Soto should have played Mileena too if Mileena is supposed to be the evil clone of Kitana. Although the stunts would have still been played by Dana Hee. This was actually one of the best fights in the movie.

10. Plot- Some parts on the plot were terrible. Actually, most parts. Either they didn't make sense, or they came out terribly. Kitana's abduction, and how it happened was pretty corny on how it was done.

11. Bad special effects- The animality scene says it all.

12. Characters don't match like their video game characters- Although Jade was my first example, some moves were either added, or replaced. Scorpion's teleport move was terrible, effect wise. He should have teleported like he does in MK3 or the future MK games. I did notice that Smoke stole some of Ermac's moves.

That's what I have so far.
