MK9 actually makes this MK:A more faithful to the franchise.

Say what you will about the movie and it's bad climax, but if you watch the MK9 cutscenes from the story mode, a lot of the stuff in MK:A is actually present in the new 2011 video game. Examples include Sindel's return, Kitana being captured and rescued by Liu, Sonya saving Jax, the Cyber initiative robots, Baraka and Sheeva playing guards, Shao Kahn's invasion and fight with Raiden, and much much more. Basically much of the plot of MK:A was MK9. If anything, I appreciate this movie a lot more because of it, and I think it warrants some praise for actually staying faithful to the MK story (aside from the whole dragon-family twist, that was unnecessary.)
