Too many characers in here with not much for them to do

I think one of the main problems was the fact that too many characters were put in here and not much was given for them to do. Then some were killed off too quickly (Johnny Cage who is one of the vital characters) and some come and go and you have no idea who they are if you have never played the game.

What I wanted to see was Sheeva fight. I mean come on, in the film she obviously wanted to fight and then she died such a pathetic death - killed by a falling contraption. What was the point of having her anyway?

And the lines in the film just seemed really stupid, in particular from Sindel. I did think the actress that played her wasn't too bad, but if she was given better dialogue it would have made her stand out a bit more.

And yes, the visual effects did feel cheesy at times.

Hmmmm it's funny I was only going to mention one bad thing in this post and I feel like I'm getting ahead of myself, but we all know it's the truth.

I can't agree more, in fact I came here to post about the same thing, I'm not a big Mortal Kombat fan but really love it and after seeing this movie really felt disappointed, and yeah I've noticed about the same thing you talk about, too many characters, looks like they really wanted to finish with Mortal Kmbat movies history, LOL I was also thrilled about to see Sheeva fighting, but when she finally got the chance, i don't remember exactly who was just throw a cage above her and that was the end of Sheeva's history.

-some come and go and you have no idea who they are if you have never played the game-

Soooo right, Mileena just came and had a fight to death with Sonya (i think the worthiest fight in all the movie) in were she lost, and correct me if I'm wrong but never heard her name.

and the last fight looked promising Jax vs Motaro, Kitana vs Sindel and Sonya vs Ermac, what a far disappointing battles, Motaro vanquished to easily, Sindel just throw a couple of kicks to Kitana before she was beaten, come on I was hoping to see some super sonic screams and some cutting fans, and Ermac losing to Sonya?? and he never even use his telekinetic powers!! and needed the help from another ninja????!!!!!!!

I agree with you too many characters in here with not much for them to do, Mortal Kombat is supposed to be FIGHT and in this movie the fights lasted no more than two minutes, they made look a bunch of characters weak and dumb, this movie sucks, but is a little bit entertaining.

I think this film had potential if they had a different director and a better script.

The last fight yes I agree with you - it was really corny and wasn't very believable considering they were all meant to be very good warriors - it almost looked like they were in a boxing match in a ring.

I think it is entertaining but only if you switch your brain off for the whole time. I hope the third one they make is way better than this.

And for the record - 'My english sucks!! it's always my last thought' - while reading your post, it never really occurred to me much at all : ) (if you are referring to yourself)

The first movie had some alright fight scenes - action films have to have some sort of purpose to the action - it needs to be driven by a good narrative for the scenes to really work. In MKA it all seemed in a hurry to get from one to the next one.

Take a movie like Ballistic Ecks vs Sever - all the action scenes were incredibly horrible with a horrible plot and terrible music score. It doesn't work because it feels too superficial.

Agree, the last fight should have last long and be amazing, even if the whole movie was crappy.

-I hope the third one they make is way better than this- ME TOOOOO!!!

Oh and thank you so much, it's just because my native language is spanish and I know like a 70% of english, 'My english sucks!! it's always my last thought' is just like an apologize if I commited a fault or misspelled too much, anyways it's good to know i'm not that bad haha, it's good to know that you understood what i said, and we coincide about the movie.

Heya.

Your welcome. Just keep practising and you'll be a pro in no time. Anyway, with discussion boards, most people always use spelling errors a lot so it doesn't really make much of a difference anyway hahah lol.

As in regards to the movie, yeah I hope the third one makes up for the mistakes of this one - would be a real blessing.

Well it really depends on what your looking for. I remember one of my favourite directors - Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers) talking about making action films. He said action has to be driven by the characters etc - and I do agree with him.

Not to say that you can't have non stop action sequences - it is true most people just go for the action scenes in an action film. I however, want a good story to back it up if possible. This is where Sucker Punch fell flat for me a bit.

I think this film should have focused on adapting the second game ONLY instead of trying to adapt MK 2 and 3 (which was out in the Arcades at the time) - that way, the only new major characters would have been Jax, the new (and current) Subzero, Shao Kahn and (possibly) Noob Saibot. Fewer characters would mean being able to devote a more consistent amount of time to each side of the story, resulting in a stronger plot (I'm a writer, so I know what I'm talking about - too many characters can cause the story to spiral out of control).

At least the first film had some character development. This one was a mess. It's still my guilty-pleasure but whatever.....
